Description and Dimensions
'After the Rain' is limited to 195 fine art limited edition prints + 20 artist proofs. Please make sure you select the format you require using the drop down list above. Printed on 376gsm fine art satin canvas, each print is individually signed and numbered by Julia and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
Available formats are:
MAIN EDITION
- Unframed
- Close Framed
The main edition prints are supplied as canvas bonded to board and acetate wrapped. As part of the printing process the canvas is coated to give a hard wearing fade resistant finish. We therefore recommend the print is not glazed when framed to retain the look of a canvas painting.
The framed print has a 5.2cm wide black step open grain wood frame which is slipped with a painted off-white moulding. The off-white section in between the the frame and the image is the slip. This is in effect a second narrower frame fixed into the main frame to give an additional line of definition to the print.
As the canvas is coated against abrasion and fading, the framed prints are not glazed.
ARTIST'S PROOF
- Stretched Canvas
- Framed Canvas
Limited to just 20 prints, the Artist's Proof is a stunning large scale stretched canvas print.
Printed on 376gsm fine art satin canvas, each print is individually signed 'AP' and numbered by Julia and supplied with a certificate of authenticity. The print is fitted to a 3.4cm deep stretcher and strung and ready to hang.
The Artist's Proof is also available in a stylish black open grain tray frame. At just 3mm wide this frame gives the Artist's Proof a clean contemporary look.
WHAT IS AN ARTIST'S PROOF?
Traditionally an artist's proof was a print made by the artist during the print-making process in order to understand the progress of the printing plate the artist was working on. In this respect it was a 'work in progress' print.
With the development of modern printing techniques the term is now used to refer to a number of finished prints that are available in addition to the main limited edition, and are reproduced to the same exact high quality. The number of artist proofs should not exceed 10% of the size of the main limited edition. The edition size of 'After the Rain' is 195 prints so there are just 20 artist proofs available. The artist proofs may be exactly the same as the main limited edition or, as is the case with 'After the Rain', the artist proofs may be a different format.

Biography
Biography
Julia was born in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire in 1969. She studied Illustration & Printmaking at Cambridge.
The study of human crowds and moving figures is the main focus of Julia’s paintings. Using a variety of photographic reference material and her own imagination, Julia captures the spirit of society on the move.
Paintings, of whatever scale, start with a brightly coloured acrylic background onto the white canvas. The abstract nature of this background painting often dictates which direction the final painting will go and elements of the paint layers are left to show through the overpainting to varying degrees. Oil paint is built up over several layers, sometimes wet on wet, other times the oil is allowed to dry sufficiently to paint over, often resulting in a highly textured surface which creates shadows of its own.
The focus on these figure paintings originated with a fascination of the shadows cast by figures when viewed aerially. The beautiful shapes cast on pavements are generally hard to appreciate when life is moving all around but are mesmerising when freeze framed in a photograph. Equally, the patterns made by bodies moving in a crowd or seen from unusual angles, have an artistic quality of their own.
