Fun Games when you're Stuck Indoors

So we’re stuck at home again, and this time it’s the weather getting us down.

But, if this wet, windy and cold weather is keeping you from getting out, why not make the most of it reliving some childhood memories and indulging in some quality family time?

Board games are a great way to have fun, break the boredom and share some quality family time. I know what you’re thinking. Why would you choose to play board games when there are sooo many less ‘analogue’ ways to spend your time?

Well, there are many potential benefits to playing board games, childhood nostalgia, rediscovering old skills and, not least, attaining a level of connection with another human being, which is a sorely missed thing in these times of social distancing.

At Collier & Dobson, we have beautiful leather bound backgammon and chess sets available to buy at our gallery and from our interiors website.

Not only do they make lovely pieces to own and use, they also are wonderful gifts to give at Christmas time.

With the ever evolving world of tech providing us with new and more enticing ways to keep us occupied every day, it appeared, for a while, that board games had had their day. However, with a growing desire for nostalgia and a new found appreciation for the benefit of quality family time, it seems the genre has enjoyed an upturn in popularity.

This year has presented many of us with many challenges, but one thing that so many have agreed upon is the importance of spending quality time together.

Board games are such a great way to bring people together (depending on how competitive things get, I suppose!). They stimulate cognitive function, strategic thinking, patience, goal setting, and often lead to spontaneous bouts of laughter which, as we all know, is the best medicine!

If that has whet your appetite and given you the urge to recapture your youth, and set up a chess rally or two, we have this beautiful pair of leather board games – backgammon and chess - available to buy on our Interiors website.
