WHAT IS HAND FINISHED FRAMING?
Hand finished frames give a unique character to an original painting as an almost infinite combination of profiles, finishes and colours are possible.
Standard framing involves cutting and joining pre-finished mouldings to make the frame.
Hand finished framing requires a skilled craftsman who will first select a suitable frame profile which is cut and joined to make a bare wood frame. The frame is then finished using a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques and materials. Depending on the finish chosen a frame may take many days to complete as component layers are built up to achieve the desired result.
The result is a completely bespoke frame made to uniquely complement the original painting. To this end, no two hand finished frames are ever exactly the same.
For Aaminah's work we have chosen a 4.5cm wide painted finish over which is applied a light coloured wash with a gold painted sight edge. The colour is varied slightly to ensure that it compliments perfectly the palette used by Aaminah in each of her paintings.
WHAT IS ARTGLASS?
Standard picture framing glass is called float glass. This glass is used by the majority of picture framers and is perfectly acceptable for use when framing most limited edition prints but it does cause reflection and impurities in the glass cause the framed image to appear duller than intended.
To overcome these compromises all our original paintings and drawings are fitted with a speciality glass called ARTglass designed to reduce reflection and improve clarity.
Unlike 'non-reflective' glass which is etched to reduce reflection but has a cloudy appearance as a result, ARTglass is coated with a high-tech film, reducing reflection whilst adding clarity.
The example shown here is an actual scan of a print framed with ARTglass in the left half of the frame and standard glass in the right half. This scan has not been altered or enhanced in any way and clearly shows how ARTglass improves the clarity and vibrancy of the image. From certain viewing angles it appears that the glass is invisible.
Biography
Biography
“I strive to produce paintings that create smiles and laughter and that the viewer can relate to.”
Aaminah Snowdon was born in 1990 in Northallerton, North Yorkshire and is a self-taught artist. Her avid interest in art started at the age of 7 when she won a school competition by painting a rather surreal whale blowing out multi-coloured water spouts. In 2012, after earning herself a 1st class honours degree in Ancient History at The University of Birmingham, she decided to pursue a career in art, with a focus on developing her own unique style that would combine her interests: animals, humour, eccentricity, bold colours and energy.
Visiting art museums is a favourite past time of hers. She appreciates the vast array of painting styles, composition and subject matter and favours the eccentric and unusual. Being an animal-lover, she is drawn to artwork depicting animals.
Aaminah’s artwork revolves exclusively around British wildlife, farm animals and pets. Working on watercolour paper using acrylic paints, Aaminah paints quickly using lively and spontaneous brushstrokes with bold, vibrant colours to impress the quirkiness, movement and character of her subjects into the painting. She completes each painting with its own witty and fun title.
Her love of all animals started at a very young age. She was always keen to rescue animals, whether injured ones or just moving snails off the pavement so they didn’t get trampled. Her fondness for animals has persevered up to this day, for she continues to rescue animals and regularly donates a percentage of her profits to animal charities, notably The Wildlife Haven in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
